Notes
The Pulitzer Arts Foundation, designed by Tadao Ando, is one of the few buildings in America that earns the word monument. Long unbroken planes of board-formed concrete. Light handled like a material rather than an accident. A space that asks the body inside it to be precise.
We shot Dominique Reinhart there across an afternoon with Asia on styling — corduroy military caps, a mesh corset and cutoffs in one look, denim with embroidered crops and heels in the next, Dior threaded through. The throughline was opposition: punk against architecture, red hair against gray light, gesture against geometry.
I shot most of this in available light and stayed on a longer lens to keep the body sized properly against the building. The stair frame is the one I keep coming back to — the parallel concrete steps cutting across the image, Dominique angled against them, the whole composition resolving without anyone needing to direct it. That's the gift of working in a space this exact. You just need a subject who can match it.
The series is treated in mixed monochrome and color. Some moments wanted the warmth of her hair and the blue of the sky. Others wanted to be reduced to light and form. I picked treatment frame by frame.
